The Garden of No Distant Place is a dedicated scatter garden for ashes located within Springvale Botanical Cemetery in Melbourne.
Designed as a place of peace and reflection, the garden is inspired by the four seasons: Summer, Autumn, Winter and Spring, symbolising the natural cycle of life. Each season is represented by its own dedicated space, with a Book of Remembrance housed in each room.
Situated between the Avenue of Roses and North Drive, this tranquil garden provides a picturesque and meaningful setting to scatter the ashes of a loved one and spend time in quiet remembrance.
As you enter the Garden of No Distant Place, you will find a commemorative plaque set into a natural boulder, featuring the poem No Distant Place by Derek Bourne‑Jones, which inspired the name and spirit of this memorial space. The poem reflects themes of connection, memory and enduring presence, offering comfort to families and visitors.
