On Thursday 31 October, we were delighted to be joined by more than 380 members of our community for a special series of Halloween Tours at Melbourne General Cemetery
During these tours, guests were regaled with tales of history and mystery told by fascinating characters brought to life by TBC theatre. This immersive style of theatre was a wonderful way to share the stories of the many historical and notable figures who are now laid to rest at Melbourne General Cemetery.
Guests entered the cemetery through our historical gatehouse for refreshments before embarking on the multiple tours bringing many surprises along the way.
Notables on the tour included Federici, the famous ghost of the Princess Theatre; Madame Brussels, the owner of a house of ill repute; Elvis Presley, the king of rock ‘n’ roll; a gatekeeper with interesting tales of cemetery activities and many more.
Melbourne General Cemetery is one of Australia’s most historically significant cemeteries, with 300,000 burials covering 43 hectares (106) acres of land, it is the final resting place of many notable Victorians with captivating life stories.
As custodians of the history at Melbourne General Cemetery, we are delighted to create events that allow us to connect and hear from our community.
We offer regular historical day and night tours of Melbourne General Cemetery led by our knowledgeable guides. All tour proceeds go toward our Historical Restoration and Refurbishment Fund and this fund is used for the sole purpose of restoring historically and culturally significant monuments.
