External roadwork disruptions at Melbourne General Cemetery

24 December 2020

Update: College Crescent is now accessible to the public and works have been finalised.

We have been advised by VicRoads that major construction works will commence along College Crescent between Saturday 2nd January and Saturday 16th January 2021. During this time, the Melbourne General Cemetery gate on College Crescent will be closed to all vehicles.

Please refer to the below area map as a guide for the entry and exit route within Melbourne General Cemetery during this time. We also ask that families who are attending funeral services during this time allow extra travel time to avoid delays. VicRoads advises to allow at least a 30 minute delay in accessing the cemetery.

Alternative gate entry and location map

A single lane entry will be available via Macpherson Street ((A) entry only) and a single lane left turn exit will be available via South Avenue ((A) exit only).

For limousines, hearses and contractor trucks, the College Crescent gate will be accessible to exit the cemetery and entry will be available via the Macpherson street gate. The expected wait time for exiting the cemetery is 5-10 minutes as VicRoads will need to clear the worksite to allow for safe passage.

We are working with the Department of Transport for the provision of traffic control personnel and will have wayfinding and traffic signage throughout the cemetery. We respectfully request that all vehicles observe reduced speed and demonstrate both caution and patience during this time.

We apologise for any inconvenience experienced during this period and thank you for your cooperation. If you have any questions, please contact us or visit VicRoads.
