Important notice: biodiversity audits across select locations
As part of our ongoing commitment to biodiversity, sustainability and the environment, we will be undertaking biodiversity audits across a select number of our cemetery locations, commencing today, Monday, July 3 2023.
The audits, being conducted by an external environmental contractor, will involve non-invasive visual inspections and investigations of Bunurong Memorial Park, Dandenong Comunity Cemetery, Sorrento Community Cemetery and Springvale Botanical Cemetery both during daylight hours, and some spotlighting and nocturnal studies in the evening. Weather dependant, it is planned that the assessments will occur as follows:
- Sorrento Community Cemetery - Monday 3rd July 2023 – 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm, 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm.
- Sorrento Community Cemetery – Tuesday 4th July 2023 – 8:00 am – 12:00 pm.
- Dandenong Community Cemetery - Tuesday 4th July 2023 – 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm.
- Springvale Botanic Cemetery - Tuesday 4th July 2023 – 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm, 7:30 pm – 10.00 pm.
What will these audits entail?
Biodiversity audits are a way to identify the various quantities and types of flora and fauna of a particular area. It is hoped that these audits will highlight the current conditions of a particular area and can give a good indication of either high, low or medium biodiversity rates.
What will I see?
You may notice individuals and vehicles within the cemetery grounds for an extended period of time as these biodiversity assessments are undertaken, and there may be some torchlight and vehicle movement within the grounds during our spotlighting assessment.
There should be no impact on neighbouring residents, and the audits will not prevent visitation to the cemetery during opening hours.
