Botanical Hill Project

Southern Metropolitan Cemeteries Trust (SMCT) is proud to be extending its beautiful botanical garden landscaping into an existing but previously unused area of the cemetery accessed by Smith Road and bound by McWilliam Street and Phillip Avenue

This continuation of our grounds will feature space for interments and create a long-lasting and peaceful garden settings for the community in perpetuity.

Work in this space will commence in early 2023. A phased approach will likely mean the beautiful new space will be complete in 2025.

Scope and timing of site works

Initial phase: anticipated March - November 2023

The first phase of works will prepare the site for future planting and construction, continuing our commitment to botanical garden settings, and will include construction of the first stage of our new monumental grave area.

It will also include future planting along the fence line on McWilliam Street to form a screen.

Water main works: anticipated 22 - 24 August 2023 (weather dependent)

McWilliam Street disruption during construction

To support infrastructure works at Springvale Botanical Cemetery, ACE Contractors have been retained to relocate a water meter on site, which will involve some minor disruptions to a limited number of properties on McWilliam Street, Springvale. Impacted properties have been notified.

Between 22 August – 24 August 2023, multiple excavations of the footpath and nature strip will be carried out to provide access to the existing water main.

Two excavations will be on the residential side of the road. Additional vehicle traffic will be noted in the area during completion of the works.

Works will take place between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm, Monday to Friday.

Traffic management will be in place to support safe movement in the area. Driveway access will remain throughout.
