A purpose-driven horticulture career

28 October 2019

Gain industry-leading experience horticultural experience within a supportive and purpose-driven organisation.

Across each of the nine sites under the care of Southern Metropolitan Cemeteries Trust, we have an extensive amount of landscaped garden.

Springvale Botanical Cemetery is widely regarded as Australia’s most beautiful cemetery, with 169 hectares (422 acres) of landscaped gardens. Our dedicated team care for over 12,000 trees and over 30,000 roses scattered throughout Springvale Botanical Cemetery alone, with various formal and informal garden displays, keeping the grounds in pristine condition year-round.

Any day of the week, our community is welcome to enjoy the grounds, walk the dog, rest on a lawn, enjoy a picnic or explore the grounds by bike. The vast diversity of native and exotic plants within our cemeteries provides for the many different species of animals who call our botanical garden home, creating a unique habitat corridor for local wildlife.

“It’s a very important place for many of the public who are coming here to visit, and I just want to make sure that the gardens are looking exceptional for them.” – General Hand Horticulture

Dedicated to sustainability, organic waste is recycled on-site and reused within the cemetery for garden bed preparation. Extensive water management programs, including rainwater tank facilities, help us provide responsibly managed water to gardens and water features.

Southern Metropolitan Cemeteries Trust (SMCT) is a public entity that manages nine sites across Melbourne; with over 300 employees who are customer-centric and dedicated to connecting with millions of people each year.

If you’re interested in growing your skills, have experience in the gardening industry and enjoy working outdoors, we’re looking to expand our horticulture team.
