Qing Ming
In 2024, Qing Ming is on Thursday 4 April and we welcome community members to honour and celebrate their loved ones during the previous weekend (Friday 29 March to Monday 1 April), and the coming weekend (Saturday 6 April and Sunday 7 April). Please note that this period coincides with the Easter holidays, and we expect more visitors to Springvale Botanical Cemetery during these times.
We will provide traffic management and an information tent on weekends to assist community members. Cleaning stations with water tanks and special ash waste bins will also be supplied, as well as incense sticks and additional rubbish bins during the entire period.
As part of our safety practice, please do not place your burning ashes into our general waste bins as there will be special bins for ash waste disposal. You will need to cool down the burning ashes before placing them into the special metal bins. There will be water available at the cleaning stations you can use to wet the ashes. The cleaning equipment will be shared, so we appreciate it if you could return the cleaning equipment to the cleaning station after using it.
We understand the cultural importance of burning bins and continually seek ways to reflect and improve our services to best support the needs of our diverse community members. After careful consideration, we are unable to continue providing these bins and the sale of burning offerings due to our fire safety and risk measures. However, you are welcome to prepare and bring your own burning bin, paper offerings and other Qing Ming offerings when you visit us.
Our new Café Vita et flores mobile catering truck will be on site serving beverages, sweet and savoury food, as well as fresh flowers between 9.00 am and 3.00 pm on Thursday 4 April near the Police Road cemetery entrance, at the corner of Mountford Drive and Tenth Avenue. You can find this location along with Qing Ming festival areas on the downloadable map below.
