Urgent Works
- 31 March 2025

On Monday 31 March 2025, a memorial wall at Springvale Botanical Cemetery unfortunately collapsed as a result of nearby works.
The memorial wall holds ashes that are placed in an urn and secured within the wall. We understand this incident may be distressing for families and visitors, we are continuing to treat this matter with the utmost respect, seriousness and care.
The wall has been secured following necessary engineering and safety assessments. The damage does not pose a safety risk to our teams or visitors. Our teams have now respectfully recovered and safely stored all urns affected by the damage.
Importantly, while the wall was damaged, the urns were not. All ashes remain securely contained within the urns, and each urn has been clearly identified. We want to reassure families that their loved one’s ashes are safe and intact.
We are focused on identifying and contacting families impacted by this incident and acknowledge this may take some time due to the age of the wall – some urns date as far back as the 1940s.
We remain committed to making every reasonable effort to reach those affected. If you believe your loved one was memorialised in Cassia Lawn Wall L, M, N or O at Springvale Botanical Cemetery, please contact our team at 1300 466 904.
We thank the community for their ongoing patience and understanding as we navigate this sensitive process.
