Urgent Works
- 31 March 2025

On Monday 31 March 2025, we became aware of structural damage to a memorial wall at Springvale Botanical Cemetery.
This wall contained memorial containers holding cremated remains. We know how distressing this will be for families connected to this site and are treating this matter with the utmost seriousness and care.
We want to reassure the community that our priority is to respectfully recover and safely store all cremated remains. However, this may take several days. For the safety of our staff, a structural assessment of the remaining wall will need to be undertaken, and the presence of asbestos investigated. Our experienced teams are working diligently to ensure all steps are taken out in line with safety protocols.
We are in the process of identifying and contacting the families who may be affected. We are committed to ensuring they are informed and supported as we work through this process.
Further updates will be provided as more information is available.
