A Day to honour fathers and their important lessons 2022

“Dads teach us lots of things, but the real lesson is always love.”Keely Chase
Father’s Day is a special day for both SMCT and our community. Our community has different ways to spend the day whether it is with family, visiting our sites, or honouring and remembering the fathers and father figures no longer with us. However you chose to spend this day, we understand that it is important to our community to take the time to remember the important men in their lives.

Reflecting on what Dad taught us
This year we were grateful to host our annual Father’s Day event in person at Bunurong Memorial Park. Our community got to enjoy a delicious High Tea catered by Café Vita et floresExternal site while hearing from a diverse range of speakers on the topic of fatherhood and grief.
Our host Veronica Lees-Amato guided us through the morning and our guest speakers, Tyson Yunkaporta, Indigenous author and academic, Sue Cameron and Hellen Kemp from the Grief Australia, and Luke McCord from Relationships Victoria Australia (RAV) each gave touching speeches on their experience.

We invited our community to share their tributes in response to the prompt “My dad has taught me...” and throughout the morning, heartfelt messages played on our digital tribute gallery for everyone to view and reflect on. To close this beautiful service, we encouraged our community to light a candle in remembrance of their loved on before departing.
“The most important thing in the world is family and love.”John Wooden
We thank everyone who participated in our Father’s Day Reflection and hope to continue to provide a safe space for our community to connect and support each other.
