Qing Ming is an important day for many Asian cultures and takes place on 5 April. During Qing Ming, families visit their loved ones’ resting places to pray and make ritual offerings. Offerings typically include traditional food and the burning of joss sticks and joss paper. The occasion is about traditionally honouring and showing respect for loved ones.
Each year, Springvale Botanical Cemetery holds a variety of remembrance services to promote inclusiveness in the wider Victorian community. Qing Ming is a community experience for all to attend and be involved in.
As this date falls on a Tuesday, many families may wish to visit over the weekend prior to Qing Ming, on Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 April. Please note that we expect higher numbers of visitors to Springvale Botanical Cemetery during these times.
