There are few places more atmospheric than a cemetery at night. Explore the cemetery’s stunning landscape as the sun fades over the horizon and bats and other creatures come out to be part of the night life. You will visit the graves of fascinating figures in Australian and Melbourne culture while your tour guide regales you with tales of mystery and history.
To enhance our Halloween night tour experience, we have added special lighting and actors to play the part of intriguing characters associated with the cemetery. Meet Federici, the famous ghost of the Princess Theatre; Madame Brussels, the owner of a house of ill repute; Harold Holt, the Prime Minister who disappeared at sea; and a gate keeper with interesting tales of cemetery activities.
The historic and iconic Melbourne General Cemetery is the final resting place of many other notable Victorians. These include Australia’s longest serving Prime Minister, Sir Robert Menzies, legendary billiards player Walter Lindrum, and ill-fated explorers, Burke and Wills. And the striking Elvis Presley Memorial is believed to be the only authorised Elvis Memorial outside of America.
During our night tours, our experienced guides will ‘introduce’ you to Melbourne General Cemetery’s who’s who, while giving you fascinating insights into one of Australia’s most historically significant cemeteries. Come dressed in your spookiest Halloween costume if you dare. The display of Halloween trinkets and the serving of refreshments in the historic gate house are also part of the experience.
All tour proceeds are used for restoration projects.
