Renovations to the reception areas at Springvale Botanical Cemetery and Bunurong Memorial Park
We wish to advise that the reception areas of both Springvale Botanical Cemetery and Bunurong Memorial Park will be undergoing construction works in early September 2024.
These works will make our reception areas safer, more accessible and more secure - both for all visitors, and for our SMCT teams.
The works will take place at both cemeteries over the same time period. We expect this period to last between seven (7) and 10 working days.
Our customer service operating hours will not change during this time.
What will change?
During the works, temporary reception areas will be set up to ensure that we can continue to support you. The locations of these are outlined below.

If you are visiting, you may also notice some temporary noise disruption between 7:00 am and 5:00 pm. We will do our best to minimise the impact on all of our community during this time, and thank you for your continued patience and understanding.

What are the upgrades?
The upgrades will include installing new glazed doors at our reception counters with clear door markings to new and existing entry doors, as well as side lights and glazed screens across the reception counters to help everyone safely navigate our reception areas. We will also have a more accessible sound system with new speakers and microphones that can connect to hearing aids.
These upgrades will allow better accessibility and communication between visitors and our Customer Care team members.
Why are we doing the renovation works?
We are renovating the customer reception areas at Bunurong Memorial Park and Springvale Botanical Cemetery to improve safety and security for our community and team members. Both reception areas will undergo construction works in early September 2024.
The upgrades will make reception areas safer and more accessible, allowing us to provide better service to our valued community.
When will the renovations take place?
- Construction dates at Bunurong Memorial Park are from Monday 9 September to Monday 23 September.
- Construction dates at Springvale Botanical Cemetery are Friday 13 September to Tuesday 24 September.
Will the reception areas remain open during renovation works?
At Springvale Botanical Cemetery, the Reception and Sales teams will temporarily relocate to the Centre for Care and Wellbeing. We will display wayfinding signs to direct our community and visitors to the Centre for Care and Wellbeing.
While the reception area at Bunurong Memorial Park will remain open, we will temporarily relocate our reception team to alternate offices. We will have signs to direct our community and visitors to the alternative reception offices.
What if the waiting area at Bunurong Memorial Park becomes too noisy?
Our Bunurong Memorial Park reception waiting area will still be available, but if it is too noisy, another waiting area will be set up in the Quiet Room at Bunurong Memorial Park, located behind reception.
We will have signs to direct our community and visitors to the alternative waiting area.
