- We are a proud member of the Diversity Council of Australia.
- As of June 2023, SMCT had a balance of people leaders, with 51% of women and 49% of men
- We formed our co-created Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) working group, chaired by our Executive GEAP Champion, which aims to educate, celebrate and advocate for diversity, equity and inclusion across our organisation.
- We are committed to achieving the goals set out in our Gender Equality Action Plan as well additional aspirational goals set by our DEI working group.
- We are conducting research to better understand the needs and preferences of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, which will inform our Reconciliation Action Plan.
- We continually look for ways to make workplace adjustments to ensure the opportunities available to our people are inclusive.

Innovation and sustainability

Our quarterly innovation roadshows help turn ideas into reality - autonomous grounds keeping, drone spraying and GPS tracked mowing, live streams, hybrid work, digital first services. Innovation is everywhere across SMCT.

Our community and employees have come to expect an intuitive digital experience and we are on a journey towards a fully integrated digital system. We aim to lead the way a not-for-profit organisation can innovate, change, maintain and improve our public spaces and essential services.
Sustainability is embedded in our strategic plan and is critical for ensuring our approach and future success in the long-term preservation of our national environment. Our commitment to sustainability includes cutting carbon emissions, reducing waste, saving water and energy, improving biodiversity, and adopting natural pest control methods.

SMCT are custodians of history and we have a deep connection to the past and future. Historic and iconic, our cemeteries and memorial parks hold the final resting places of many notable Victorians, from ill-fated explorers Burke and Wills to numerous former Prime Ministers.
