Grandparents make our lives a little more special

Grandparents Day

"Sometimes our grandmas and grandpas are like grand-angels."
— Lexie Saige

Today on National Grandparent’s Day, we’d like to honour the special relationship between grandchildren and their grandparents.

We often see the special moments shared by families at our many locations, when they come to honour the grandparents who are no longer with us. Some of us get a lot of time with these senior figures in our lives, others don’t have as much time and the memories are built on the stories from our families.

The reality of life is that at some point we must say farewell, for now, to these cherished, grand people in our lives.

It’s not an easy conversation to have, but helping our grandparents to put their affairs in order can ease a difficult and already emotional time. It also gives loved ones a chance to learn about their grandparent's wishes for how they want to be remembered. MyLifebook on our Southern Metropolitan Cemeteries Trust website supports families to do just that, keeping a record of their wishes to be honoured in the future.

On Grandparents Day, we can remember and share memories of those who are no longer with us. Their special wave, their nurturing voice, their cheeky faces and endearing actions. Those special little moments that only a grandchild and their grandparent can share. Today we can smile as we think of them.

Wherever they may be …

"Grandparents make the world... a little softer, a little kinder, [and] a little warmer."
