All Souls Day commemorates the deceased and is celebrated annually by the Catholic Church, some of the Anglican Communion and the Old Catholic Churches. The Eastern Orthodox churches recognise several All Souls days during the year and the Roman Catholic celebration focuses on uncleansed souls that may be helped from pergatory to heaven by prayer and the sacrifice of the Mass.
