A memorial service is held annually for Albert Jacka, who was awarded both the Victoria Cross and the Military Cross and is widely recognised as a symbol of the spirit of the ANZAC’s.
On Sunday 16 January 2011, the 14th Battalion commemorated the anniversary of the death of Albert Jacka. The formal service was held at his grave site within St Kilda Cemetery and was attended by family, the Mayor of Port Phillip, Cr Rachel Powning, an Army contingent and Trust Member John Saddington.
Awarded both the Victoria Cross and the Military Cross, Albert Jacka is appropriately referred to as a ‘war hero’ and is recognised as a symbol of the spirit of the ANZAC’s.
